Catholic perspective on waste and recycling:

Dolphins and other sea animals are being killed because of waste being dumped in the sea.

Catholics believe that one should protect the environment in any way that they can, and that everything on earth has a purpose and has been given to us for a reason. Therefore, one should not be wasteful of any product that can potentially be used again. The Bible further confirms these beliefs when stating: "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." Thus, God created man in his own image. God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground." In today's day and age, it is easy to fall into materialism and neglect our ethical responsibility to re-use what has been given to us. With the current problem of population growth, it is absolutely necessary that people begin to recylce as much as they can. With each passing day, we continue to surpass the Earth's sustainability. God then said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food." And it was so. God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day. The story of Noah's Arc should also be considered. In this, God claims that every animal should be placed in Noah's Arc, and each one should be treated fairly. There is a massive storm, but all the different types of animals survived beacuse Noah saved them. This story links directly to our topic as we should all be looking after our environment, which includes keeping our animals safe and away from harm. We should be helping to reduce waste that is put into the sea, and should try to concentrate on keeping them in recycling organizations.
